Q: Why pediatric dentistry?
A: It is imperative that children establish a dental home at a very young age. I am aware that this may be a difficult task for a parent or caregiver. My job is to provide guidance in achieving and maintaining this goal.

Q:What is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist?

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I enjoy spending time with my family. I love to travel, experience new restaurants, reading, and listening to Jazz. Most of all I enjoy giving back to the community by visiting local schools and teaching children about oral health, and participating in community events such as health fairs to educate families about the importance oral health, especially for their children.

OUR SERVICES

Dental Education and Disease Prevention

Some steps that may be taken to greatly prevent or decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems are: brushing twice a day, flossing, eating a balanced diet, and visiting your dentist regularly for a professional cleaning and oral exam.

Dental Cleanings

A dental cleaning is part of oral hygiene and involves the removal of dental plaque from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities, gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Dental X-rays

Dentist use radiographs as a diagnostic tool to find hidden dental structures, malignant or benign masses, bone loss or cavities that may not be visible to the naked eye. At Treasured Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, we use the Nomad Radiograph system which is a portable system that is more conducive to treatment of children and those who may have limited mobility. The Nomad system is a new technology in which numerous studies have been conducted to ensure safety. Several of these studies have shown that the Nomad design reduces stray radiation that might leak from traditional wall units. This reduction in stray radiation also reduces the amount of exposure to the patient and to the radiology technician.  In addition to the Nomad system, the patient also wears protective equipment resulting in very minimal radiation exposure compared to other traditional systems. The Nomad system also allows for the person taking the radiographs to be in the room with the patient to provide reassurance and comfort while taking the radiographs.   For more information you may call us at 571-293-0244.

Pulp Therapy

Baby Root Canal is the removal of damaged or painful nerve inside the tooth.

Dental Exams

Dental exams are used to check the overall health of your mouth, including your teeth, gums and jawbone.  Depending on the patient's behavior, age, medical conditions, and reasons of dental appointment, dental exams are done in a variety of methods.  For example: when the patient is very young and has an age appropriate uncooperative behavior, we may ask the parent to sit with the patient.

Dental Fillings

Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the affected tooth structure. The teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin filling.

Dental Extractions

A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for variety of reasons including but not limited to:  tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to render the tooth non-restorable, the baby tooth is preventing the permanent tooth from errupting or the patient is affraid of wiggling the tooth during the normal exfoliating process. Tooth extractions may also be prescribed when the patient is in the process of having orthodontic (braces) treatment.  We understand that patients as well as parents may have a more significant fear when the extraction of a tooth is prescribed.  Our priority at Treasured Smiles Pediatric Dentistry is to make this type of appointments as pleasant as possible.  Therefore different techniques are used according to the patient's behavior assessment and parent understanding.   For more information you may contact our office at 571-293-0244.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide also known as "laughing gas"  is a gas that is combined with oxygen to produce a calming effect and a sense of well-being when inhaled. It is used to help patients relax (not numb) during dental treatment.  Some of the concerns and questions that parents have about using Nitrous Oxide are:  Is it safe? Are there any side effects? Can my child go to school that same day? Is my child going to fall asleep?  Why is the laughing gas not working on my child? Does my insurance cover laugning gas? And lastly, is the laughing gas going to numb the tooth?  At Treasured Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, we make sure that parents have a general understanding of the use, indications, contraindications, and effects of Nitrous Oxide.

Special Needs Patients

According to the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry, a patient with special needs can be defined as someone with medical, physical, psychological or social circumstances that require a change in their normal routine. In the context of dentistry and oral health, a patient with special needs requires a change in regular approaches to dental care in order to receive treatment. At Treasured Smiles Pediatric Dentistry we are specially trained in treating patients with special needs.

General Anethesia

Dental General Anesthesia is used to eliminate dental anxiety, pain, and immobilize the patient allowing the dentist to focus on performing the dental procedure. Patients having dental treatment under general anesthesia are completely unconscious, unaware of what is happening during the dental procedure. In the dental office, the administraion of General Anesthesia is not done by the dentisty but by an Anesthesiologist.

At Treasure Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, we also provide this service when indicated.

Our office Anesthesiologist is Dr. Grace L Dorsch. Dr. Dorsch has over 20 years of experience.  She has great knowledge in the field.  She understand the stress that parents can experience during their child's procedure. We enjoy working with her.

Dental Sealants

Dental Sealants are applied to protect deep chewing surfaces on the back teeth from tooth decay by keeping cariogenic bacteria (cavity producing bacteria) and food particles out of the grooves.  The placement of sealants is a very delicate procedure. With a skilled dental staff and proper cooperation from the patient, this procedure takes an average of only 20 minutes. Some pateints may be sensitive to the taste of the material used for this procedure.  We make sure the that patient is rinsing during the procedure to reduce the discomfort of an unpleasant taste.  Sealants may last for a very long time with proper care and routinely evaluations by the dentist.  Sealants are not prescribed for every patient. A detailed dental history, clinical and radiographic exam is done prior to prescribing the application of sealants.
